Pipestem State Park is a popular resort with a wide variety of activities, accommodations, dining options and recreation. Guests can choose to relax in the lodge, hike a nature trail, picnic with friends, play a round of golf or ride 3410 feet down an aerial tramway to dinner. Pipestem Overnight Accommodations Include Campgrounds, Cottages, Resort LodgingGuests can choose from a variety of overnight accommodations at Pipestem. Two, three and four bedroom cottages work well for families or groups choosing to spend time together. Each of the 26 cottages has a kitchen, living room, bedrooms, bath, front porch and deck. McKeever Lodge features an indoor pool, exercise room, game room, reading room, gift shop, snack bar and restaurant, The resort's convention facilities are also located there. On the bank of the Bluestone River, the 30-room Mountain Creek Lodge is open seasonally and only accessible by the aerial tramway. Eighty two campsites are available and options include no hookups, electric only, or electric, water and sewage. State park camping fees vary depending on the hookup chosen and firewood is available for purchase. Pipestem State Park Summer Amphitheater SeriesEach summer, Pipestem State Park hosts a series of events in the 525-seat amphitheater. Some shows have an admission fee and some are free to the public. No alcohol is allowed at the shows and attendees do not have to be overnight guests of the resort. Summer series entertainment often includes community music, bluegrass and gospel festivals, storytellers, rock and roll weekends and Appalachian dancers. Golf, Tennis, Swimming, and the Recreation Area at PipestemThe 18-hole par 72 golf course features stunning views of the Bluestone Canyon. The West Virginia course was designed by Geoffrey Cornish. There is also a 9-hole par-3 course and both courses have cart rentals, a pro shop and driving range. The recreation area also has a miniature golf course, outdoor swimming pool, tennis course and child's play area. Fees apply to some of these activities. Fishing and Boating at Long Branch Lake AreaLong Branch Lake Area had both paddle boat and canoe rentals. The 16-acre lake is stocked with trout from February through May. Temporary non-resident fishing licenses are available at Park Headquarters or at stores in the area. The lake is accessible only by a foot trail except for vehicles with handicap tags. The Stables and Nature Center at PipestemThe stables at Pipestem have guided trail rides and ring rides. Overnight trail rides and hay rides are available with advance reservations for groups and certain restrictions apply for all stable events. The Nature Center is open in the afternoon with daily scheduled activities. It features displays of plants and animals indigenous to West Virginia and naturalist-led programs. Location of Pipestem ResortPipestem is located in southeastern West Virginia, 14 miles north of Princeton, making it easily accessible from Interstate 77.
